AIT Interview with Kyun Thibaut

Name: Thibaut Kyun - Position: Lead Consultant AIT/ASD - Altran Solution: Mechanical Engineering Practice Leader - Industry: High Tech Systems; Medical Devices

Context of Kyun's favourite project:

My favourite project took place in a company developing a new generation of medical device for people suffering from hearing problems.

The project was about the development of an active implantable actuator that drives the inner ear of the patient. A first version of the device was fully verified and was under clinical investigation when I started the project. I contributed as Systems Engineer and my various tasks consisted in:
- Following the clinical trials and making intra-operative functionality tests
- Solving issues at system level
- Coordinating and integrating the work between the different teams
- Subcontractor manager
- Contributing to the overall deliverables required by the Design Control
- Contributing to the development of the commercial version of the device

Kyun's Project Challenge and Results:

As Systems Engineer, you need good analytical skills and a good overview of the whole system's technical aspect. This includes the general system architecture but also more details about the mechanical and electronic designs. To efficiently contribute to the work, you also need good reporting and communication skills. Finally, you need to understand the principles that bring a medical device on the market.

Naturally, it is also important to follow the client’s procedures and always apply the good Systems Engineering Practices.

The first phase of the clinical trials ended with great results and the patients’ satisfaction. People having lost their normal hearing over time have shown impressive improvements with the new device compared to the usage of conventional hearing aids.
The commercial version of the system is being fully validated and will be ready soon.

Altran gives me the opportunities and tools to develop my hard and soft skills. This linked with a great work atmosphere, good relationships with managers and an incredible networking with the colleagues, makes me enjoy to be part of the company.
